10 Things You Should Know about eCatcher

by BU Ewon TS | Feb 20, 2020

#1 - eCatcher Online Help

Pressing F1 in eCatcher - or clicking the ? icon in the upper right side - opens the eCatcher Online Help dedicated to the page or topic your are currently on.

New features are automatically added to the Online Help by the Ewon Team.

The eCatcher Online Help can also be browsed directly via eCatcher Online Help.

#2 – Customize the Ewon description

In the Ewons frame of the eCatcher interface, 3 columns can be customized to provide useful descriptions on the Ewon devices such as the country - where are located the Ewons - or the name of the project.

A clear description on each Ewon or on the remote site allows an easy identification when you have an extended list of Ewons. You can also use the description to filter the Ewons via the search bar in eCatcher, eCatcher Mobile or M2Web.

By default, these columns are named Custom Field 1,2 & 3. This setting is global to the account and can be found in the menu: Account > Advanced settings > Custom Fields > Modify. For example, custom fields can be renamed in Customer name - Site, Location name, Machine type.

Good to know: a right-click on the column’s header allows you to add more predefined columns such as firmware version, pool or network information.

#3 – Ewon Logbook

A Logbook is available for each Ewon device of your account. Once connected to the Ewon, you can write additional messages to the Logbook by clicking Add message in the active connection window.

You can also display the logbook even if you are not connected to the unit, by a simple click on the log icon. User messages, connections & other events are displayed in the same log.

Use the filter to sort out specific events - such as "User messages" or "Ewon status" - from the logs.

You can export the logs, filtered or complete, as a CSV or TXT file.

#4 – Talk2M Status Page

The Talk2M servers are monitored 24/7 by our on-duty engineers.

The Talk2M Status web page reflects the real-time status of the Talk2M infrastructure.

We report and explain any maintenance or service perturbations. You can also be notified by email on planned maintenance.

Check the Talk2m Status.

#5 – Talk2M Connection Checker

The Talk2M Connection Checker is the perfect tool to verify if your WAN connection - used for your Ewon or your eCatcher software - can provide complete access to our Talk2M services.

This tool can be found on the Ewon download page: Ewon Downloads

You can find more details in the following link: Talk2m Connection Checker 3.0

#6 – Two-Factor Authentication

You can combine your Talk2M account with 2-factor authentication - 2FA - which adds an extra layer of security for account access.

Usual authentication is done by SMS / Text Message but it can also be performed by validating a dedicated computer that will be used as second trusted authentication factor.

#7 – Display the Ewons on a map

Instead of the classic Ewon list, you can display all the registered Ewons on a world map.

The Map view is an efficient way to display all your assets per area.

This geolocation is not driven by GPS technology, making it compatible with all Ewon devices.

The position is retrieved either via the cellular network or in correlation with information provided by the Internet Service Provider or the Wi-Fi router.

A manual adjustment is possible if the estimated position is not accurate enough or for a grouped display.

For privacy reasons, the geolocation of the devices can be deactivated either for the entire account or just for specific Ewons.

#8 – Register the Ewon on another Talk2M account

For security purposes and to avoid misuse of running Ewon devices, you cannot assign a registered Ewon to another Talk2M account.

The registration request is automatically rejected by the Talk2M server (Access Denied).

To re-assign an Ewon to another Talk2M account, the administrator of the account must first delete the Ewon from the former Talk2M account.

#9 – Reports

For many organizations, the ability to track who has been connecting to various remote assets is an important part of their business practice.

Talk2M gives reports to account administrators in order to monitor their account activity. Discover how to export the monthly reports in this video:

#10 – Personalize the Talk2M Access

You can customize the M2Web portal to reflect the identity of your company.

The M2Web access can also be fully integrated in to a third-party website via an Iframe.

This customization feature is called M2Web Logo Program and you can configure it directly from eCatcher.
