« Often, additional things that the customer wants only become apparent once the system is operational » explains Reiner Lohrmann, development engineer at KAMAG. « We aim to implement these changes. After all, we want satisfied customers ».

To maintain this flexibility while keeping cost under control, the company chose to install eWON routers in order to establish a remote maintenance.

Perfect compatibility

« Our machines work under very different conditions,» he explains. «They can be on shipyards affected by wind and salt water or in steelworks with dirt and extreme temperature fluctuations and the remote maintenance modules have to work reliably wherever they are.»
The fact that the eWON router is compatible with either PLC or Profibus interface seduced the company as well as the resistance of the device to extreme temperatures. « In the steel or glass industry, our transporters work in hot buildings and then drive back out into the cold yard. The components must withstand these extreme conditions », he explains.

Challenge responsiveness

The eWON remote maintenance router provides to the company another valuable service in terms of error messages. A specificity of KAMAG’s machines is that they continue to run even when one of the parameters is wrong.

Reiner Lohrmann explains this choice: « Our machines do not shut down, as it is vital that the transport operation is completed. If a container full of several tons of red-hot slag is on the trailer, you cannot simply shut down the machine because all the measurements will no longer be under control. There is a specific time window in which the container must first be emptied, otherwise it will melt - and this is the top priority. Only then can the vehicle driver look into the errors.»

Because of these special and complicated features, many users keep working without checking the parameters which could lead to major damages or even to a total breakdown. But the new warning supervising system from eWON avoids these risks.
