The SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a high
layer TCP/IP protocol used mainly by IT departments
to manage and monitor WAN and LAN networks. With same
features as classical SCADA package used in the industry,
the SNMP Manager software package provides a MMI (Man
Machine Interface) including an Alarm Management module,
real-time graphics, etc
The most popular SNMP Managers are:
- UNICENTER TNG from Computers Associates
- TIVOLI from IBM
- OPENVIEW from HP
- etc
The eWON makes the interface between the field and
the SNMP protocol allowing to manage technical data
such as temperature, level, pressure, switch,... with
a standard SNMP manager.
The eWON supports SNMP version 1 and is provided with
its own MIB.
Every data gathered by the eWON trough its own IO or
by UNITELWAY, MODBUS or ASCII protocols can:
- be associated to a SNMP OID (Object ID) to assume
SMNP visibility
- generate TRAP when an alarm appears ( see eWON
Alarm Management features)
